POW Post from Itzehoe to Reading!

I have come across a card from someone in Itzehoe to a POW still in the UK on 19 Dec 1948. The addressee is to Obersch. Emil Sommer, B193850. At that time he was an inmate of Mortimer Camp POW Camp near Reading, and must have been amongst the last of the POW we held.

Was he still in detention because of his rank? Does "Obersch" mean Oberscharfuehrer? Does anyone know his family?

This information is included for two reasons: Itzehoe was under our care at the time; and his family will therefore have been known to us in some capacity.
