This page details the Characteristics of the Truck, Cargo, Dropside, 8T, GS, 4x4, Bedford TM. The vehicle is the result of a trial between Foden, Leyland and Vauxhall, held in response to an MOD requirement for a vehicle in the 8 Tonne Class. Vauxhall won the contract, and a 2000 vehicle run was agreed at a cost in 1977 of UKPds 40 Million, though the vehicle did not enter full production until 1979.

 Seating.   Wooden sets may be fitted to facilitate the carriage of personnel. They are arranged along the centreline of the cargo bed, the troops sitting outwards facing, in order to speed reaction in an ambush.

 Cupola   A Cupola is fitted to the cab roof allowing a soldier to be posted as an air sentry. No provision is made for weapons to be fitted to this position.

Cargo Area Cover   A series of hoops is provided to support the canvas tarpaulin cover for the cargo area. The height of the tarpaulin may be varied to two positions - the hoops are lowered to their low setting for air transportation. Stowage is provided for both tarpaulin and superstructure when not in use.
